The Polish studio has also confirmed when Dying Light: The Beast will arrive, so fans of the franchise have something to look forward to…
So far, over 45 million people have played Dying Light and/or 2, so there’s a lot of interest in the indoor, open-world zombie extermination. Two years ago we heard that the first part of the franchise had reached 30 million players, so that’s an increase of 15 million. Over the past decade, 67 billion zombies have died and over 1 billion hours of gameplay have been logged.
To celebrate the 10th anniversary of the franchise, both games will be receiving a number of events over the next four weeks. Dying Light will receive HyperMode with a double XP bonus in the first week, while the sequel will be available at up to 67% off, depending on platform and region, thanks to the biggest discount ever. Dying Light will also receive the Low Gravity, Super-Crane and Viral Rush events, while Dying Light 2 players will be able to access new loot via the Pilgrim Outpost website. In week four, Dying Light 2 will receive the Tower Raid cooperative roguelike mode, which will become a stable part of the game after several rounds of testing.
The first part of Dying Light will soon receive a new patch that will improve the graphics, the soundtrack will be remixed, and composer Paweł Błaszczak will even expand it. Of course, most of the content will be for Dying Light 2. Techland has promised five years of post-launch support, and the game is about halfway through that. The updated 2025 content roadmap mentions improvements to cooperative gameplay and matchmaking, new playable tower raid characters, improved community map support, new ranged and melee weapons, and a new weapon class. In addition, the prologue will also include improvements, graphical and technical updates, and of course, free equipment and costumes.
Dying Light: The Beast, which will see the return of Kyle Crane, the protagonist of the first game, will be released this summer. Other unannounced projects in the franchise are also in the pipeline, including board games, a webcomic series, and other exclusive merchandise.
