MOVIE NEWS – Johnny Depp still hasn’t spoken about the future of Pirates of the Caribbean, but Orlando Bloom has, and he’s not ruling out a return. Disney is reviving the franchise, but will its iconic characters be part of it?
Disney seems determined to get a new Pirates of the Caribbean movie off the ground as soon as possible—whether Johnny Depp is on board or not—after the actor made it clear years ago that he had no intention of reprising his role as Jack Sparrow. But what about the other major characters in the swashbuckling saga? Orlando Bloom was recently asked about it, and his response was more positive than expected.
“Never say never”
The Lord of the Rings star portrayed Will Turner in three of the franchise’s five films (plus a small cameo in a fourth), making him one of the central figures alongside Johnny Depp and Keira Knightley. Seeing them sail the high seas together again aboard the Black Pearl would be a huge bonus—especially considering Bloom isn’t shutting the door on a return. Here’s what he had to say:
“Listen, for me, this was a very wild and fun experience, so… never say never. I have a lot of respect for what he went through, for his producer, and for this whole thing. But I don’t know. I mean, it’s one of those things that I haven’t really thought about. (…) I hear Bruckheimer is very excited. It’ll be an interesting thing to see.” – Orlando Bloom (via EW)
The British actor also commented on Keira Knightley’s recent remarks, in which she expressed mixed feelings about the Disney franchise: “I was branded a shitty [actress] because of them.” While Bloom has fond memories of his time in the films, he understands why his former co-star might feel differently.
Will Turner’s Story Isn’t Over Yet
As you may recall—and spoiler alert if you haven’t seen Dead Men Tell No Tales—the Pirates of the Caribbean saga seemingly concluded with Will Turner finally returning home after breaking the curse that bound him to the Flying Dutchman. It was a fitting ending for Bill Turner’s son—perhaps one best left untouched—although a post-credits scene hinted that there was still unfinished business.
