TECH NEWS – The first generation Galaxy XR headset has been tested by a YouTube viewer and it looks a few things like the Apple Vision Pro…
Samsung is working with Google on Project Moohan, which will be the first generation of such a headset and will use the Qualcomm Snapdragon XR2+ Gen 2 chipset. So far, we’ve only seen images of the device, but now a YouTube user has been able to experience the not-yet-finished product. The headset that we can put on our heads will look very similar to the Apple Vision Pro, while also carrying a battery disk attached to a cable, but the underlying software will be significantly different.
The battery disk is based on USB-C, so theoretically there are multiple ways to power the device if it can draw enough watts. Software-wise, it will run Android XR, and that will have several advantages. If you’re wearing the Galaxy XR for the first time, press the top button to start the lens setup process. This is necessary because everyone has a different face and the distance between the eyes varies from person to person. The adjustment is done in a few seconds. The software isn’t quite finished yet, as it’s still in developer preview, but it’s already working quite well.
Separate windows can be dragged from the corners to resize them, and the same windows can be positioned anywhere in the viewfinder by grabbing the bottom bars. Best of all, Google Play Store apps also work with Project Moohan, suggesting that any Android XR headset will be able to do the same. Apps designed for phones and tablets also work surprisingly well on the device, which has improved the user experience. According to YouTube, Samsung is planning to release the Galaxy XR sometime this year, but the South Korean company hasn’t said anything about pricing yet.
The software is not ready yet, so we can expect improvements in this area. Based on what we’ve seen so far, the Samsung Galaxy XR could be great. The only question is how much it will cost.
