Take-Two could do something with Rockstar’s game that would make the already greedy publisher look very greedy indeed.
And no, we don’t mean that Take-Two won’t charge $70 for the game, but that we could pay up to $100 for it when it comes out on Sony and Microsoft’s current-gen consoles this fall. No, the Strauss Zelnick-led company wants to double down elsewhere. In short, it wants to break the tradition of Grand Theft Auto IV and V with the long-awaited new installment.
At launch, Grand Theft Auto VI and Grand Theft Auto Online will be sold separately by Take-Two, and those who buy only the online component will be able to upgrade to the full game later. This was posted by a well-known Rockstar leaker, Tez2, on the GTA forums. According to the insider, Rockstar will have to include the price of the online component in the price of the milky game. If there are people who don’t want to play online, but just want an offline (or at least single player, because who knows if they’ll ever need a constant internet connection to play…) sandbox, they can get Grand Theft Auto VI cheaper, or at least not at a gold price. So we can still expect a possible price of $80…
On the PlayStation 5 Pro, Grand Theft Auto VI can reach 60 FPS with the PlayStation Spectral Super Resolution upscaler. A former Rockstar animator told us about this. On the base PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X, don’t expect that, but only 30 FPS, and Rockstar can only optimize for 60 later. The goal for the studio is to make the new Grand Theft Auto excellent at 30 FPS.
Grand Theft Auto VI will be released for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series in the fall (no word yet on when exactly). The price is still a big question mark. It will certainly start a new trend in the overall price of games…
