Ben Affleck and Matt Damon Reunite in First Look at Netflix’s True-Crime Thriller RIP

MOVIE NEWS – It’s been a while since Oscar-winning duo Ben Affleck and Matt Damon shared the screen in Air (2023), but that’s about to change. The longtime friends and collaborators are joining forces once again for Netflix’s upcoming thriller RIP, directed by Joe Carnahan (The Grey, Bad Boys for Life). Based on real events, this high-stakes crime film explores just how far people are willing to go when money is on the line.

Affleck took the stage at the 2025 Next on Netflix Special Presentation in Los Angeles (via People) to introduce an exclusive first look at RIP. The film also stars Teyana Taylor (Coming 2 America) and Sasha Calle (The Flash). Speaking to the audience, Affleck expressed his enthusiasm for the project:

“This is the seventh movie that Matt Damon and I have produced under our company, Artists Equity, and in many ways, it’s the most significant for us.”

He went on to explain:

“We’ve partnered with some really incredible people who aren’t just focused on what’s been done before, but what’s possible in the future. This is exactly the kind of movie we want to champion on Netflix.”

A Tense Thriller with High Stakes

RIP follows a tight-knit team of Miami cops whose relationships begin to crack after they stumble upon millions of dollars hidden inside an abandoned stash house. As word of their discovery spreads, trust is tested, and danger lurks around every corner. The first official still from the movie, which you can check out below, shows Damon and Affleck as grizzled detectives interrogating a suspect, setting the stage for a gripping, high-intensity drama.

According to Affleck, audiences should expect a film that keeps them on edge:

“This is an exciting, unpredictable ride that keeps you guessing the whole way through. It’s a gripping human drama that taps into the timeless elements of cinema that audiences have always loved.”

A Legendary Hollywood Duo

Ben Affleck and Matt Damon’s history goes way back to their childhood in Cambridge, Massachusetts. They first appeared together in small roles in Field of Dreams and School Ties, but it was their Oscar-winning screenplay for Good Will Hunting that launched them into Hollywood stardom. Damon was even nominated for Best Actor but ultimately lost to Jack Nicholson.

Over the years, they’ve collaborated frequently, most notably in Kevin Smith’s films. However, their first non-Kevin Smith collaboration in almost 25 years, The Last Duel (2021), despite critical praise, was a financial disappointment, earning just $30 million against its $100 million budget. Their 2023 sports drama Air put them back in the spotlight, proving once again that their creative partnership still holds magic.

Will RIP Be Their Next Big Hit?

Whether RIP will match the success of their previous films remains to be seen, but with its gripping subject matter and the undeniable chemistry of Damon and Affleck, it wouldn’t be surprising if it quickly climbs Netflix’s streaming charts upon release. The film is set to premiere this fall, exclusively on Netflix. Until then, you can revisit Air, currently streaming on Prime Video.
