MOVIE NEWS – As video game adaptations like Fallout, The Last of Us, and Arcane continue to dominate the small screen, Elliot Page is now bringing Beyond: Two Souls to television. Page’s production company, Pageboy Productions, has officially acquired the adaptation rights to the 2013 Quantic Dream video game, which originally launched on PS3 before being remastered for PS4. Featuring motion capture performances by Page and Willem Dafoe, the game gained critical acclaim and was one of the few video games to be recognized at the Toronto International Film Festival.
According to Deadline, the adaptation will follow the original game’s protagonist, Jodie Holmes, a young woman with supernatural abilities who is psychically connected to an invisible entity named Aiden. Her journey leads her through government conspiracies, covert operations, and mysterious paranormal events as she seeks to uncover the truth about her connection to Aiden. The series aims to preserve the game’s unique nonlinear narrative while reinterpreting it for television audiences.
Page spoke about revisiting the Beyond: Two Souls universe, stating:
“Filming this game was one of the most rewarding and demanding experiences of my career. The emotional weight and depth of the story create an incredible foundation. We’re eager to bring a fresh, distinctive vision to these characters and their journeys—one that resonates with longtime fans and newcomers alike.”
Matt Jordan Smith, Pageboy Productions’ Head of Development and Production, also emphasized the adaptation’s storytelling potential:
“This series will honor the game’s legacy while introducing new perspectives. Exploring survival and how split-second decisions impact not only our own lives but the lives of those around us is a core element of the narrative.”
David Cage, founder of Quantic Dream and the original writer-director of Beyond: Two Souls, shared his excitement about collaborating with Page again:
“I’m beyond thrilled to be working with Elliot Page once more. His performance in the game was truly phenomenal, and I can’t imagine anyone better suited to bring this story to a new medium with the same passion and dedication. Beyond: Two Souls holds a special place in the hearts of millions of players worldwide, and I know Elliot’s instincts and vision will make this series something extraordinary.”
Where Will Beyond: Two Souls Air?
Page founded Pageboy Productions in 2021 and established a first-look deal with Universal Studio Group. The company’s first two films, Backspot and Close to You, debuted at the 2023 Toronto International Film Festival and received limited theatrical releases in 2024. Pageboy Productions focuses on “developing and producing compelling, original, and socially conscious stories” while championing “underrepresented voices and creators who have historically been excluded from mainstream Hollywood.” The company prioritizes inclusivity, authenticity, and equitable representation across all aspects of filmmaking.
As Beyond: Two Souls is still in early development, streaming platforms and networks will likely be vying for the rights to the series. Given Pageboy Productions’ deal with Universal Studio Group, Peacock could be a natural fit for the adaptation, complementing other gaming-based series like Twisted Metal. However, it’s also possible that major platforms such as Apple TV+, Amazon Prime Video, or even networks like Starz and Showtime will compete for the project. With the game’s cinematic storytelling approach, the series has the potential to be a perfect fit for television.
