TECH NEWS – The answer to AMD’s question may not have been what “the reds” expected.
New graphics cards sell out in seconds. This is also true for Nvidia’s GeForce RTX 5000 GPUs. AMD has been left out of the loop as its Radeon RX 9000 graphics cards, which will run on the new RDNA 4 architecture, have yet to be announced. Frank Azor, AMD’s head of consumer and gaming marketing, took to Twitter to ask a simple question: “What features are we most excited about with RDNA 4?
Some of the answers include good value (some people don’t want to pay more for just the graphics card than the full high-end rig they bought a year ago), good value (hoping that FSR 4, AMD’s new upscaler, doesn’t take off 6-12 months after release), pricing, reliable drivers, and there was also someone who mentioned that he didn’t want a desktop graphics card to consume more than 500W (the RTX 5090 can sip 575W, and that was just the reference card!).

Ray tracing was not a popular answer, and the public would rather see AMD graphics cards in stores than scalpers stocking up and making money on them by reselling them at a significantly high price. With both the Radeon RX 9070 XT and RX 9070 due out sometime in March, and AMD targeting the mainstream category, the Twitter feedback seems justified. Not everyone wants to play at 4K with max graphics.
If the RX 9070 will be $500 in the US (the European pricing should thus be at around €600 as the US pricing does not include sales tax), it will give AMD a great way to compete with Nvidia. If it’s paired with the performance of the RTX 4080 or so, we won’t be disappointed.
