TECH NEWS – A small sacrifice had to be made for the South Korean company’s slimmer device, according to rumors… but where did Samsung “cut corners” on the smartphone?
The Galaxy S25 Edge will be thinner, but stylish, and its looks could be what grabs the public’s attention. But Samsung didn’t always want to go this way, as we now hear that two prototypes of the smartphone were made, but in the end the option that was allowed for mass production was the one that will be thinner than the other. This in turn means that there will be no triple camera setup on the back of the device.
According to Smart Prix, the thinness of the smartphone is staggering – it will be 5.84 millimeters! Previously, 6.4 millimeters was rumored and this could be the device with three camera sensors on the back of the phone. So there will really only be one sensor on both the front and back of the device. On the back will be the 200-megapixel sensor seen in the Samsung Galaxy S25 Ultra, the top model. Samsung probably thought that the masses would prefer to see an ultra-thin device from the company, which could come at the expense of improvements.
We’ve already reported (before the Galaxy Unpacked event) that the Galaxy S25 Edge appeared on Geekbench 6 with an increased clock speed Snapdragon 8 Elite, and the multi-core test score was below what you’d expect based on the chipset’s capabilities. Due to its thinness, there’s no massive vapor chamber solution, so the thinner Galaxy S25 will simply fall behind its siblings in long-duration stress. This design choice also limits the device’s overall battery capacity and charging speed: the 3C certification reveals that the smartphone will ship with a rather small 3900 mAh cell, supporting a maximum of 25 W of power.
The only question now is what Apple will come up with. They will come up with a device called iPhone 17 Air. But all this is not official yet!
