The new Assassin’s Creed will feature two protagonists, so it’s no wonder that the game’s creative director is trying to clarify the situation.
We’ve known for a long time that Assassin’s Creed Shadows will have two playable protagonists. Naoe, the shinobi, will be a more agile character, but not exactly tailored for combat, while Yasuke, the samurai, will rely more on his brute strength, so he won’t be as fast or as good at stealth. So far, we’ve heard that there won’t be a choice between the two in certain sections, but what the game’s creative director Jonathan Dumont just told Screen Rant clarifies things a bit…
“I don’t think you’re missing too much. I think it’s more your preference to say ‘okay, I’m going to see how the game adapts a little bit to the character if you choose one over the other’. They get individual introductions and then they get their own quest line. So that one, let’s say Naoe, a personal questline cannot be played by Yasuke, and those are two different things. But the core of the game is that you can choose your character and the game adapts.
So I guess you can switch for gameplay reasons, you can switch if you think you like one of the other protagonist better, but I don’t think you’ll miss anything. That’s more, all right, have fun with the game, just play it however you want. And there will be some choices here and there where I wonder what happened, what would happen with this character, but I don’t think you’re missing out. I play pretty balanced and what happens is I play with one for three, four, five hours and then I switch and then I just play for two, three hours. Usually I play stealth and then I go, all right, let me destroy some camps and stuff for a while. And then I just switch like that,” Dumont said.
Assassin’s Creed Shadows has already been delayed twice (first from November last year to February this year, and then from February to March), with a possible final release date of March 20 for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series, PC, Mac, iPad and Amazon Luna.
