[SOP 2025] Saros: Is Housemarque Raising the Bar Even Higher? [VIDEO]

After Returnal, the Sony Interactive Entertainment studio has come up with a game: Saros, that could be more beautiful, more and bigger than ever before.

Saros is the ultimate evolution of Housemarque’s first-person experience. After Returnal, Housemarque knew they had created something special and award-winning, but they also knew they wanted Returnal to stand on its own. With that in mind, they decided to create a new IP that would expand on the studio’s deep third-person action and mysterious storytelling. Saros is an action game that tells the haunting story of a lost off-world colony on Carcosa under an ominous eclipse. You play as Arjun Devraj, a powerful Soltari Enforcer who will stop at nothing to find those he seeks. The studio’s goal is to create an emotional and powerful character study that explores the cost of creating a new future.

Arjun is played by Rahul Kohli (Midnight Mass, The Fall of the House of Usher; both Netflix series). Rahul truly brings Arjun to life in a stunning performance. He was a brilliant collaborator in telling the story and a champion for the game. But he is not alone in Carcosa. A key gameplay difference between Saros and Returnal is the permanent resources and progression that make every death valuable. After each death, you face a changed world, but in Saros, you can choose and permanently upgrade your loadout from an evolving set of weapons and suit upgrades to “come back stronger” for the challenges you face on Carcosa.

So Housemarque isn’t really planning to continue Returnal (they don’t want to leave it for nothing), but instead the Finnish team is planning a new IP. Since Returnal was a big surprise compared to the studio’s previous games, maybe they can now really build on what was just the beginning with Returnal. We will hear more about the game later, according to the studio’s promises.

Saros is scheduled to be released sometime in 2026 for PlayStation 5.
