Josef Fares Says Ubisoft Could Make Millions with a Co-op Splinter Cell

“It’s a guaranteed success,” says the director of Split Fiction, who believes Ubisoft’s key to success is simple: make a Splinter Cell game his way. According to Josef Fares, the French publisher would strike gold with a split-screen co-op version of the legendary stealth series.

As Hazelight Studios puts the final touches on its upcoming release, Split Fiction, set to launch on March 6 for PC, PS5, and Xbox Series, its outspoken director, Josef Fares, is already making headlines. In a recent interview, Fares didn’t just hype up his latest cooperative adventure—he also handed Ubisoft a million-dollar idea: bring back Splinter Cell as a split-screen-only game, and watch the money roll in.

Speaking with GamesRadar+, Fares highlighted Hazelight’s dedication to co-op gaming, seen previously in hits like A Way Out and the award-winning It Takes Two. “I find it absolutely crazy that other publishers aren’t doing this,” he said. “There are so many people playing these games, and they love them. Look at Ubisoft, struggling right now—I hope someone there listens to this interview. Why aren’t they bringing back Sam Fisher and making a split-screen-only game?”

“Don’t be afraid to commit to co-op,” he continued. “Just make it split-screen only. Boom, that’s it. Instant success, and I guarantee you’ll sell a ton of copies. They don’t even have to do it Hazelight-style. Why not listen to this and say, ‘Oh, he’s right’? It’s a guaranteed win for them. Here, Ubisoft—you can have this advice for free.”

It Takes Two Dropped a Hint About Split Fiction

Whether Ubisoft listens or not, one thing is certain: anticipation for Split Fiction is sky-high. Players are eager to experience Zoe and Mio’s adventure in full co-op mode. And for those who’ve been paying close attention, Hazelight has been teasing its next big project for years—It Takes Two actually included a subtle nod to Split Fiction, hidden in plain sight since 2021.
