“We apologize.” The first beta test for Elden Ring: Nightreign has had such a rough start that FromSoftware is already exploring ways to compensate players for the server crash. PlayStation users faced connection issues during the network test, prompting developers to consider additional beta sessions.
Hundreds of players had marked today on their calendars for the first closed beta of *Elden Ring: Nightreign* – a network test designed by FromSoftware to assess the game’s servers. However, this first encounter with the dark fantasy world has been anything but smooth, as PlayStation users have struggled to connect. Things went so badly, in fact, that the *Dark Souls* developers are already thinking about extending the beta.
The *Elden Ring: Nightreign* test is being held in three-hour sessions, with the first one starting today, February 14, at 12:00 PM CET. Unfortunately, the servers couldn’t handle the traffic from PS4 and PS5 players, and by around 1:20 PM, the service had gone down. “Nightreign servers for PlayStation are undergoing maintenance,” FromSoftware posted on X.
In essence, PS4 and PS5 users barely got to experience the *Elden Ring: Nightreign* beta they signed up for weeks ago. Seeing how many fans missed out on the first test session, FromSoftware issued another statement that should interest PlayStation, Xbox, and PC users alike. “We apologize for the inconvenience caused by the *Elden Ring: Nightreign* server failure. Today’s network test will end at 11:00 PM as scheduled, and we will proceed with improvements. We are considering holding additional tests later today. We appreciate your understanding and cooperation.” If FromSoftware does add an extra session, we’ll update this story.
FromSoftware Knows Fans Want a Duo Mode for Elden Ring: Nightreign
Right now, the FromSoftware team is focused on fixing the most severe issues with the *Elden Ring: Nightreign* servers. However, the developers are well aware of other features the community has been requesting. One of the most highly anticipated additions is a two-player mode, as the game was originally designed to be played solo or in teams of three. Junya Ishizaki, project director, recently addressed the topic in an interview and confirmed that the studio is seriously considering adding a two-player mode – but warned that this feature will not be available at launch.
