Final Fantasy: Are We Getting Another Remake and a Remaster Soon?

While the third act of the Final Fantasy VII Remake project is still in the works, another episode is rumored to be in the works.

Final Fantasy is a franchise that has a lot of main episodes and a lot of spin-offs. So Square Enix has a pretty good supply to draw from if they want to bring any of these to a modern audience. Rumor has it that Final Fantasy IX, the last of the three episodes released for the PS1, is the game Square Enix is remaking. This was reported by a trusted insider, NateTheHate, on Twitter.

According to him, Final Fantasy IX Remake is still in active development and a remaster of another Final Fantasy episode is being made alongside it. This would be another spin-off, Final Fantasy Tactics, which also made its debut on the PS1 back in the day. But don’t expect either of them for months. They won’t be released until 2025, but it’s possible that one of them could still arrive (the remaster will probably have to wait longer). There’s nothing stopping the Japanese publisher from announcing one (or both) in the spring or summer.

We first heard about the Final Fantasy IX Remake a few years ago, when the GeForce Now leak put it on the list. Since then, several insiders have said a few things about the new version of Zidane’s story, and all of them have said that the remake will be very close to the original (and made on a much smaller budget than the Final Fantasy VII Remake trilogy), so that’s probably the direction Square Enix will go. Even Yoshida Naoki, the producer of Final Fantasy XIV and XVI, has commented on the possibility of a remake, saying that it would be difficult to condense it into a single game, so they might as well split the project into several parts…

However, Final Fantasy IX Remake and Final Fantasy Tactics Remaster are not official yet.
