The French publisher has confirmed the direction it intends to take in the near future, but it could change that if its next big project doesn’t deliver what it expects…
Yves Guillemot, CEO of Ubisoft, said in his quarterly report that the French company will rely on two pillars. One for open world games and the other for the development of live service products. The former is the perfect definition of Assassin’s Creed, while the latter includes games like Rainbow Six: Siege and The Crew Motorfest. So the publisher is not looking to change its approach.
“We have invested significantly in a large pipeline of products for the coming years along our two verticals, which are open-world action-adventure and ‘game as a service’ native experiences. And that’s what we want to deliver year after year after year. As you know, we are preparing a big launch for Assassin’s Creed Shadows in the very near future. Next year we have big plans that will benefit Rainbow Six across all platforms, that’s well focused and that’s a major milestone in the overall plan for the company.
We’ve announced that Anno 117: Pax Romana is coming next year, as well as The Division: Resurgence on mobile. All of that is going well. We don’t have any more color on fiscal 2026, but we’ll have more to share between now and May, and as I just said, we have a strong platform for the coming years in both of those verticals,” Guillemot said.
The CEO revealed that pre-orders for Assassin’s Creed Shadows are on par with Assassin’s Creed Odyssey. It was the second most successful episode of the franchise in terms of sales. Of course, this does not mean that the episode set in feudal Japan is guaranteed to do well. And if this game underperforms, as Star Wars Outlaws did, who knows if Guillemot will still be talking about these two pillars in May…
So the publisher is hopeful… at least in the short term.
