TECH NEWS – Although the US company no longer makes AR (augmented reality) headsets, Apple is not giving up so easily.
Last year, the Apple Vision Pro came along, saw the light, and… with its expensive starting price ($3500), the headset, which had some futuristic technology, quickly disappeared from public discourse. It also got an operating system in the form of VisionOS, and a second version of it was released (around the same time as iOS 18), but it was missing something that eventually made it into iOS, albeit with a slight delay.
Apple Intelligence was launched six months ago and has not been available for Apple Vision Pro until now, even though AI could help with productivity. According to Bloomberg editor Mark Gurman, it will appear on the AR headset with no hardware system requirements. Writing tools, Genmoji, Image Playground are just some of the features that could make their way to the Cupertino company’s device. With this, the functionality of the headset will receive an upgrade that could even give the headset a second life, and thus customers could possibly buy up Apple’s stock of it.
Apple is also reportedly releasing a new app for the headset that will make more spatial content available on it, as it can act as a hub. While there are already several sources of such content for the Vision Pro, this new app will provide access to content that Apple considers officially approved. The company never promised any AI features on the device, so it’s questionable when this update will make its way to the headset. According to WCCFTech, we can expect it around April, when the company will unveil iOS 18.4. Gurman even wrote in his newsletter (Power On) that Apple is delaying the new Siri features for almost a month, so it could slip into iOS 18.5 due to challenges in its development.
It remains to be seen if Apple Intelligence will increase interest in the headset.
