Cyberpunk 2077 Sequel Aims for Unmatched Ambition – Revolutionary Crowd AI Incoming

Get ready, because Cyberpunk 2077’s sequel is shaping up to be incredibly ambitious. CD Projekt hints at “the most realistic and reactive crowds” ever seen in a game. A recent job posting suggests the Polish studio is focused on making its world feel more alive than ever.

While a large portion of CD Projekt RED’s team is currently focused on the highly anticipated The Witcher 4, it’s no secret that another division is developing the sequel to Cyberpunk 2077. According to recent reports, this sci-fi RPG is set to push boundaries and deliver an ambitious new experience. Now, fresh details reveal that the developer is working on a system designed to bring “the most realistic and reactive crowds” in gaming history.

Next-Level AI and Crowd Behavior

This information comes from a recent CD Projekt RED job listing (via VGC). The posting states that the creators of The Witcher 3 are looking for a Lead Encounter Designer to join the development of Project Orion—the codename for the Cyberpunk 2077 sequel. The position’s main goal? “To help formulate solutions and craft memorable gameplay encounters that engage and excite our players.”

One of the most eye-catching parts of the listing appears under the Daily Responsibilities section. The role specifies that the designer will “work closely with the systems design team to create the most realistic and reactive crowd system [seen] in any game to date.” While further details remain scarce, it raises speculation about how deep NPC interactions could be—whether they will have extensive dialogue or react dynamically to in-game events. Either way, CD Projekt RED seems intent on raising the bar for immersion in its futuristic RPG.

CD Projekt RED Expands Project Orion’s Development Team

So far, this is one of the few insights available about the gameplay innovations planned for the Cyberpunk 2077 sequel. However, CD Projekt RED has confirmed that it plans to double the number of developers working on the title. Additionally, the studio is expanding the Cyberpunk universe beyond games, with projects including a new animated Netflix series and a movie.

Meanwhile, other teams at CD Projekt RED continue work on The Witcher 4. The company has already stated its intention to refine gameplay mechanics and improve monster-hunting aspects from The Witcher 3, as well as enhance NPC quality and interactions in its fantasy world. Fans have already caught a glimpse of the first teaser featuring Ciri’s new adventure, and expectations for the upcoming RPG are sky-high.
