Final Fantasy VII Rebirth: The PC Port Has Made a Lot of Money Already!

Square Enix’s example proves that there is money to be made in PC ports (but you need a decent execution, not a sloppy port).

Despite the fact that Final Fantasy VII Rebirth, the second act of the Final Fantasy VII remake project, was released almost 11 months after the PlayStation 5, the public jumped on the port in no time, and now we have a tangible result that console exclusivity can be damaging (unless you’re talking about Nintendo, because they’re not going to change their strategy).

According to Mat Piscatella of Circana (formerly NPD Group), Final Fantasy VII Rebirth came in third on the list of top paid (premium) games in January, as Square Enix jumped to third place in the US, taking into account digital disc sales (when shared by publishers), but that doesn’t include DLC. Last December, Clouds’ Story was ranked 56th, so that’s a huge improvement, but even bigger was the Final Fantasy VII Remake & Rebirth Twin Pack: the pack, which includes the two parts of the remake so far, was ranked 265th in the last month of 2024, and from there it rocketed up to 16th!

Let’s have a look at the top list (publisher in parentheses, followed by the previous month’s position):

  2. Madden NFL 25 (Electronic Arts, 2nd)
