Void Martyrs: A Nun’s Journey Through Space

Mac n Cheese Games’ survival horror (with a slight sci-fi twist) so far promises to be a very atmospheric one.

Void Martyrs is a grimdark survival horror roguelike about a nun in space. You’ve been sent on a crusade to fight off an invading biomechanical plague. Explore abandoned ships and giant space cathedrals to find the resources you need to survive. Kill and be cursed, or stay pure and find other ways to stay alive. Make your way to the relic at the heart of each location, then hold off the plague monsters long enough to make it back to your ship. Craft new tools before moving on to the next location. If you die as a saint, the Church will simply send another to collect your blessed remains and take up the cause.

Void Martyrs is inspired by games like Darkwood, Blasphemous, and Signalis. Scavenge and fight for scraps among space cathedrals and floating ship-like bunkers. Craft tools and weapons to help you survive alone (ish) on the edge of a black hole. Manage your holiness, which is affected by your choices, and unlock holy or cursed items. Endure powerful stigmata to make you divine enough to fend off the biomechanical plague monster hunting you down.

Void Martyrs is a roguelite with procedurally generated corridors full of zombies where you must collect ammo and craft to somehow survive the zombie outbreak. Looting the corpses makes you more cursed, but sanctifying them takes your character in a holier direction. It’s probably not worth maneuvering between the two extremes, but it’s too early to tell.

The video for Void Martyrs isn’t even up on YouTube (we searched for it, but got zero hits), so the best you can do is watch it on Steam (since you can’t embed it here), and they haven’t even listed the system requirements. What we do know is that Mac n Cheese Games is planning to release the game for PC sometime in August (it probably won’t be coming to consoles).
