iPhone 17: What Do the CAD Renders Reveal About Its Design Changes?

TECH NEWS – When you see Apple’s 2025 smartphone in computer renders, the rumors can get serious.

Supposedly, the Cupertino company wants to redesign the iPhone 17 and iPhone 17 Pro extensively, so that Apple can get better sales in China, for example. We’ve previously reported that the iPhone 17 Pro and Pro Max could be part aluminum, part glass, and have a camera bar on top. This design would be a huge improvement over the current look. CAD renders of the phones outlining possible changes were posted by Sonny Dickson.

Among the renders is the iPhone 17 Air, which aims to enter the thinness race by compromising on a 48-megapixel camera lens on the back (similar to the iPhone 16), but not on the ability to record spatial video, which would require at least a dual-lens camera. The basic iPhone 17 has a familiar design, with two cameras mounted vertically on the back (so it can record spatial video). Since the design doesn’t change that much, Apple is trying to convince people who don’t want to switch to one of the Pro 17s (they got used to the old one).

The iPhone 17 Pro models could see a significant design change, with a larger camera bar in addition to the aforementioned part-aluminum, part-glass solution. The devices are rumored to move away from the traditional square camera bar design and feature a unique camera bar that spans the width of the device. The camera bar will house a triple-lens camera array, which will be accompanied by a LiDAR reader, an LED flash, and a microphone.

It’s not yet clear whether Apple will actually make such a change to its iPhone 17 products, and whether the new design will actually be of any use, or whether the US company would just change it for looks. The smartphones will be released in September this year. Until then, it’s all unofficial!
