It’s another setback for the troubled action RPG Dark and Darker, as it abruptly disappeared from the Epic Games Store due to ongoing legal claims. Ironmace confirmed that the removal appears tied to accusations by Nexon, marking yet another chapter in their tumultuous legal saga.
Ironmace’s Dark and Darker has faced considerable turmoil stemming from a prolonged legal dispute with publisher Nexon, who alleges Ironmace developers misappropriated resources from a cancelled Nexon project. The controversy took another dramatic turn recently when Dark and Darker vanished from the Epic Games Store without prior notice, delivering another significant blow to the title that remains in early access.
On the game’s official Discord, Ironmace issued a statement explaining the unexpected situation: “We regret to inform you that Epic Games has decided to remove Dark and Darker from their store. This decision appears to be influenced by claims from opposing parties involved in an ongoing legal dispute. We’re currently seeking clarification on the exact reasoning behind this action.” Ironmace added context, referencing Nexon’s longstanding allegations that the game’s creators utilized materials from a previous project belonging to the South Korean giant.
“It seems the removal process hasn’t been fully finalized, as Dark and Darker is gone from the main store, yet the Dark and Darker: Legendary Status package remains available. Please be mindful of this potential confusion,” Ironmace clarified. “In anticipation of further complications, we are developing alternative solutions to ensure continued access to Dark and Darker for our community. More details will be shared shortly. We sincerely apologize for any inconvenience caused.”
Importantly, players who already acquired Dark and Darker prior to its removal from Epic Games will retain access. Meanwhile, Ironmace is actively working to restore the game’s availability on the platform.
History Repeats Itself: Previous Removal from Steam
This isn’t Dark and Darker’s first abrupt storefront disappearance. In 2023, the title was removed from Steam after Nexon issued a cease-and-desist letter to Valve. It took Ironmace six months of legal wrangling to reinstate the game successfully. Now, as the drama shifts to Epic Games, fans can only hope Ironmace navigates this storm just as effectively.
