MOVIE NEWS – Ever since Amazon took over the James Bond franchise, fans have feared that Hollywood’s “woke” agenda would ruin the legendary spy. At least, that’s what social media wants you to believe. However, according to a report from the Mail on Sunday, Amazon MGM Studios isn’t planning to turn the world of 007 upside down—despite its reported $1 billion investment.
When it was announced that longtime Bond producers Barbara Broccoli and Michael G. Wilson were stepping back from the franchise, it sparked outrage among die-hard fans. With so much uncertainty surrounding Bond’s future, concerns over drastic changes seemed inevitable. However, an inside source claims there’s no need to panic:
“There have been a lot of misleading rumors about Bond’s future. Amazon is dedicated to preserving the essence of the character, which means he will remain British or from the Commonwealth—and he will always be a man.”
Still, many fans remain skeptical. Until the new Bond is officially revealed, suspicions will linger, especially as some compare Amazon’s CEO Jeff Bezos to a real-life Bond villain. For years, Broccoli and Wilson reportedly blocked spin-offs that could dilute the franchise’s prestige, but now, with Amazon in charge, all bets are off.
Bond Insiders Are Divided on the Franchise’s Future
Not everyone in the Bond universe is thrilled about the franchise’s new home. While some, like former 007 star Timothy Dalton, are cautiously optimistic, others have been much more blunt. Former Bond screenwriter William Boyd didn’t hold back in his criticism:
“Expect Bond-branded cologne, a theme park, and designer tuxedos. The new owners will milk every last dollar from their billion-dollar purchase. Nightclubs and Bond vodka are just the beginning.”
Former casting director Debbie McWilliams shares similar concerns. A veteran of the Bond franchise who helped cast several 007 actors, she expressed doubts about Amazon’s track record in the film industry:
“Looking at Amazon’s previous theatrical releases doesn’t give me much confidence. If they mess with what makes Bond special, they risk alienating a massive audience. Picking the next Bond is a huge responsibility—I certainly wouldn’t leave it up to X users.”
