MCU Fans Divided Over New Iron Man as Reboot Approaches

With Fantastic Four: First Steps introducing a new universe and the X-Men seemingly spread across multiple alternate realities, it’s becoming increasingly clear that Avengers: Secret Wars will follow its comic book roots and bring different universes together. Like it or not, the MCU as we know it is nearing its end.

While it may not be a complete reset, there’s no doubt that significant changes are coming.

Among them, we can likely expect new actors stepping into the roles of iconic heroes like Iron Man and Thor.

Robert Downey Jr. and Chris Hemsworth have embodied these characters for nearly two decades, making their replacements a daunting task for Marvel Studios.

The potential recasting of Tony Stark is particularly controversial, especially since RDJ himself has hinted that he might return at some point.

Over on Reddit, the general sentiment is that the new Iron Man should be younger—unless Marvel intends for its actors to play these roles into their 90s.

“Actors age out of roles over time. They can’t do this forever,” one fan noted. “RDJ will be 60 when Avengers: Doomsday is released. Marvel is obviously going to want to keep using iconic characters like Iron Man without having to rely on Downey forever.”

Taron Egerton has emerged as a popular choice among fans, and many also support Henry Golding, who has proven his acting range in various roles.

Whoever ultimately takes on the role will be facing a near-impossible challenge, and I certainly don’t envy them.
