Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet: Was It Inspired by FromSoftware’s Hit Game?

Naughty Dog’s next game is said to be inspired by the Japanese studio’s recent blockbuster…

Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet was first announced at last year’s The Game Awards, giving fans a glimpse of what Naughty Dog has been up to since The Last of Us: Part 2 in 2020, aside from the cancellation of The Last of Us Online (which meant no multiplayer Factions mode in TLoU 2). The announcement came as a surprise, as it was the studio’s first new IP in over a decade. The first signs of Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet, which mixes traditional sci-fi with pop culture elements, are encouraging, but it seems that the game’s release is still a long way off, and not coincidentally, the studio hasn’t even given a release year…

MinnMax editor Ben Hanson has revealed that Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet will take inspiration from FromSoftware’s Elden Ring in terms of player freedom. He says that if comparisons to the Japanese studio’s game had been made when the game was announced, the public reaction might have been quite negative. He talked about this game back in October (it hadn’t been announced yet) because he was already talking about player freedom, but he didn’t want to leak the title of the game (he probably already knew that).

For the sake of the sci-fi setting, Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet will take place on a single planet, which makes the comparison to Elden Ring logical. Naughty Dog boss Neil Druckmann claimed back in January 2023 (over two years ago!) that he was interested in the story of Elden Ring, so it would make sense that some inspiration would have seeped into the studio’s latest title, so Druckmann might have been under the impression at the time that the sci-fi adventure game was the inspiration for the game that would soon get a multiplayer spin-off.

But of course, that’s just a rumor!
