Microsoft and Bethesda Game Studios (BGS) have been hiding the PlayStation 5 port of Starfield since it was released a year and a half ago, but it’s becoming a dead end for them.
New potential evidence has emerged that Bethesda’s Xbox exclusive Starfield could be coming to the PlayStation 5. On Friday, users noticed that a Starfield user-created content library posted on one of the titles had a PlayStation logo alongside Xbox and PC in the list of available platforms. The content in question was quickly removed, but as always, the internet hasn’t forgotten, as it has resurfaced on the ResetEra forum.
A PlayStation 5 port of Starfield has been expected ever since Xbox shared its vision for the franchise a year ago. At that time, Microsoft confirmed that games like Sea of Thieves and Hi-Fi Rush would lose their Xbox exclusivity. Since then, those games have been released on either PlayStation 5 or Nintendo Switch, and now the next PS5 port will be Forza Horizon 5. In November, Xbox boss Phil Spencer said that there was no red line on which Xbox titles would come to other platforms. In January, Spencer was asked if Starfield could come to PlayStation 5, to which he hinted that the BGS game could come to other platforms. When asked by Destin Legarie if he could confirm that Starfield would remain exclusive, Spencer replied: “No, there’s no specific game…there’s no reason for me to put a ring fence around any game and say ‘this game is not going to go to a place where it’s going to find players and be a business success for us.’ What we find is that we’re able to run a better business that allows us to invest in a great lineup of games like you’ve seen, that’s our strategy. Our strategy is to make our games available. Game Pass is an important part of being able to play the games on our platform.”
Then they should slowly announce the port!
