Another excellent result for Valve’s game, and you can really feel the continued growth of Steam “trickling down”!
Counter-Strike 2 broke the record for concurrent players less than a month after setting the previous record! This is a great achievement considering it’s been almost two years since the game was released. It shows great perseverance of the Counter-Strike fans who continue to flock to the shooter… even though it doesn’t get any major updates. If this had happened recently, the result would be understandable, but that’s not the case here!
2025 has already received several major games (Monster Hunter Wilds, Avowed, Kingdom Come: Deliverance II…), Valve’s highly competitive shooter continues to top the Steam charts. On February 16th, Counter-Strike 2 surpassed 1.7 million concurrent players, setting a new high for the game. Now, just over a month later, it’s pushed that number even higher, with 1,824,989 concurrent players as of March 15th (and it’s still over 1.2 million at the moment). That’s an incredible achievement without a major content update, and it’s true that Counter-Strike 2 Premier Mode entered its second season in January.
It seems that the game is extremely popular, and that’s the reason for the new record… but the growing market for skins and other collectibles may also have played a role in Counter-Strike 2’s dominance on Steam. The game’s achievements may also be due to Valve’s crackdown on bots and cheaters, as late last year Counter-Strike 2 introduced a one-year trading ban for players who exploited the Armor Pass bug.
But let’s not forget what Monster Hunter Wilds revealed after its release. In just nine hours, Capcom’s game became the second most concurrently played title (1.3 million), but even that couldn’t dethrone Valve’s masterpiece… still, congratulations to Valve! Keep it up.
