TECH NEWS – The “Reds” promise better products in the future, seeing the demand for the new architecture cards.
AMD showcased its best-performing products at the AI PC Innovation Summit in Beijing, claiming to have sold hundreds of thousands of RDNA 4 graphics cards. AMD CEO Lisa Su, senior vice president Spencer Pan, and senior vice president and general manager of AMD’s China subsidiary Jack Hyunh took turns on stage to talk about the company’s latest products and innovations. Artificial intelligence was the main topic (understandably, given the title of the event).
AMD also talked about the recently announced RDNA 4 GPUs and the Ryzen 9 9000X3D CPUs. The two models of the Radeon RX 9070 have been available since March 6th and sold out quickly in most parts of the world, so so far there’s no complaints about performance, and this event was the first time AMD officially announced how many units of the RX 9070 XT and RX 9070 it has sold: over 200,000, and they all sold out around launch. In just under two weeks, that’s not bad, but it’s likely that AMD’s numbers are for the first week, or just the first batch produced.
The cards are hard to find in stores, but this should improve in the next period. The manufacturers (AIBs) will also play a role in this, as they have increased the retail price of the RX 9070 XT by $200 compared to the MSRP. While AMD has announced that they are “encouraging” MSRP pricing, they have no control over how AIBs and distributors want to price their cards. Nvidia has also said that they shipped twice as many RTX 5000 cards to stores in the first five weeks compared to RTX 4000 cards, but there are no numbers on the “green” graph, so it’s hard to compare the results of the two companies…
The results are good, but when the MSRP is not met on either side, it’s always a hit to the customer’s wallet…
