Ark: Aquatica: Did the Marketing Team Do the Terrible Trailer? [VIDEO]

It’s no coincidence that the recently released trailer video for Ark’s latest DLC is bizarre and strange…

Reactions to the latest video for Ark’s upcoming underwater DLC, Aquatica, with what appears to be AI-generated footage, have been quite mixed. The top comment under the video (it’s embedded below) says it’s disgusting and the developers should be ashamed of themselves. Coming from a YouTube user with over 1 million subscribers who is involved with Ark, this is a very serious criticism indeed.

Studio Wildcard is the company behind Ark, but they are not creating the DLC, Snail Games is, because Ark: Survival Ascended is in development and Studio Wildcard is focusing on that. The developers have also distanced themselves from the whole thing, saying that Ark: Survival Ascended and Ark 2 are their priority, and that they plan to release Ark: Lost Colony later this year. The developers at Snail Games have also responded, with lead game designer Matt Kohl telling Pocket Tactics that the marketing department used stills from some assets to create an AI-animated trailer. This was not part of the development team and they were not aware that they were doing this.

The video is narrated by a voice that sounds like something out of a TikToko’s Brainrot video, and features characters whose legs sometimes randomly turn into flippers. This is not a good representation of what Ark: Aquatica is really trying to be. The generic underwater scenes look like someone is selling Subnautica on Temu and we’re getting a quality product for our money. The image is also constantly blurred…it’s just impossible to take seriously.Kohl added that Snail Games did not use any AI tools in the development of Ark: Aquatica, and that the finished DLC will look nothing like the trailer.

So what was the point of the video?
