Assassin’s Creed Shadows: Another Milestone for Ubisoft’s New Game!

The French publisher’s game has reached another milestone, one day after its previous achievement, but it’s a marathon, not a sprint…

Ubisoft is proud to announce that Assassin’s Creed Shadows has now reached two million players, surpassing the achievements of two previous titles, Assassin’s Creed Origins and Assassin’s Creed Odyssey, at launch. On launch day, the game passed the 1 million player mark that we announced in the news the other day.

That’s certainly a strong start. Ubisoft needed this like a loaf of bread, as several of its previous titles have been financially disappointing. Skull and Bones, Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora and Star Wars Outlaws all flopped, and the list goes on and on. Meanwhile, rumors are circulating that the Guillemot brothers, who own the largest stake in the company, are reportedly looking for investors to create a new entity to manage Ubisoft’s biggest franchises, and that would of course include Assassin’s Creed, and from what we’ve seen so far, the fair launch of Assassin’s Creed Shadows will probably help with that.

However, it is not for nothing that we said it would be a marathon, not a sprint. It is still too early to tell how successful the game will be. We are also curious to see what the distribution will be on different platforms. On Steam, Ubisoft has finally been present since launch day, but so far the peak number of concurrent players has been rather low (60,000)… although the PC audience may be used to looking for games from the French publisher via Ubisoft Connect or the Epic Games Store.

It’s hard to draw too many conclusions from this relatively low number; the PC platform could still account for a significant portion of the two million user base. And we don’t know how much of a difference the Ubisoft+ subscription made. In any case, congratulations.
