God of War: Will There Be a New Greek adventure After All?

Although rumors of a remaster have been quashed by game developer Santa Monica Studio, there are still rumors that Kratos is heading to the Greek world…

Rumors have been circulating for some time that a remastered God of War collection is planned for release this year, the 20th anniversary of the franchise, but we’ve reported that Santa Monica Studio has shot them down. However, Giant Bomb editor Jeff Grubb claims that there will be a new God of War side story set in Greece that will be released later this year.

Recall that the first few installments of the franchise were set in Greece and focused on Greek mythology, before the 2018 God of War reboot switched to Norse mythology. God of War director Cory Barlog previously said he never planned a second God of War trilogy based on the 2018 game, but the completion of God of War: Ragnarök left the story open for more titles.

“Everyone keeps asking about it, so I’ve been trying to find out more. There’s still a Greek God of War thing coming out this year, but it’s not a remastered collection. It’s a new side-story project. I was never told about a remaster collection, but I asked a source about the rumors (which I saw focused on a collection) and they told me that nothing God of War would happen at the State of Play, but something could show up for the anniversary,” Grubb wrote on Bluesky.

Sony has already announced plans to celebrate the 20th anniversary of the God of War franchise. As part of the celebration, new in-game content will be added to God of War: Ragnarök, including new items and a physical art exhibit. God of War Ragnarök players will be able to get their hands on the new free Dark Odyssey Collection starting March 20 (as we previously reported). God of War: Ragnarok first appeared on PlayStation Plus in January, and around the same time, Sony announced that it was canceling two live service projects, one of which may have been related to God of War.

Not much is known about Sony’s games this year. There’s Ghost of Yotei (the sequel to Ghost of Tsushima) and Death Stranding 2: On The Beach… and that’s about it. But it’s not official yet!
