TECH NEWS – The Cupertino-based company is also working on a foldable smartphone, and rumors suggest that it will use some technology from the iPhone 17 Air.
Many are claiming that the foldable iPhone will arrive next year, and an announcement could come before the end of the year, as the company is looking at different suppliers that could provide it with the right amount of parts. And what’s interesting is that it’s internally identical in many ways to the iPhone 17 Air, which promises to be a very slim iPhone. However, the finished product may not be very common, as Bloomberg editor Mark Gurman talked about in his weekly Power On newsletter.
According to Gurman, instead of the clamshell design, the device will be more similar to the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 6. According to previous information regarding the specifications, the external display will be 5.49″ (~13.95 cm) and the primary panel will have a 7.74″ (~19.66 cm) screen. Gurman didn’t mention what the official name of the device might be, but in a podcast he speculated that Apple’s first foldable iPhone might be called the iPhone Ultra.
But in what ways will it share elements with the iPhone 17 Air? Presumably, thinness will play a role and Apple’s own 5G modem will also be used. According to Ming-Chi Kuo, an analyst at TF International Securities, Apple could charge $2000-2500 for the foldable iPhone and will use its own components to reduce component costs and make more profit.
The power efficiency of the C1 modem in the iPhone 16e gives it the best battery life of the 6.1-inch iPhones, so the C2 modem, which is currently being tested, could do even better. The foldable iPhone is due out next year, and there will not be a large supply, but Gurman says that will improve over time.
A foldable iPhone model has not yet been announced, so until then, treat this as a rumor!
