Killzone Could Still Be a Hit – Composer Says It’s Time for a Remastered Trilogy

According to the franchise’s longtime composer, Sony could find new success by reviving Killzone through a remastered collection. Joris de Man believes a Killzone Remastered Trilogy “would be successful” and urges PlayStation to reconsider the dormant sci-fi shooter series.

The Killzone franchise was once a cornerstone of the PlayStation-exclusive lineup, earning praise for its gritty design, immersive combat, and unique fusion of science fiction with political themes. While developer Guerrilla Games is now known for its acclaimed Horizon series, the studio originally gained attention with multiple entries in the Killzone universe.

As PlayStation continues its strategy of remaking and remastering classic titles, composer Joris de Man has joined the call for a revival. Speaking about the idea of a Killzone Remastered Trilogy, de Man expressed optimism: “I think it would be successful.” While he remains unsure about the potential for a brand-new installment, he believes there’s still strong interest in a modernized return. The last entry, Killzone: Shadow Fall, launched in 2014 as a PS4 exclusive and marked the series’ most recent outing.

To Come Back, Killzone Would Need to Evolve

“I’ve heard there’s been interest,” de Man said, “but it’s a risky move. I can’t speak on behalf of Guerrilla… I don’t know if it will ever happen. I hope it does, because I think it’s an iconic franchise. But it would need to adapt to modern expectations—some of the themes are quite bleak.” His comments were shared via Insider Gaming.

He further elaborated on changing player preferences: “I’m not sure a new game would perform as well. People may have moved on, they may want something else. Sometimes it seems like players prefer faster-paced, more casual experiences now.” In contrast, Killzone is remembered for its slower, methodical gameplay and heavy atmosphere, which may be less in line with current trends.

Despite continued fan interest, Guerrilla Games has already confirmed that the Killzone series has officially been shelved, with no plans to bring it back in the near future.
