During the beta test, we received a lot of feedback for the game, so the Chinese development team may make some changes to the current plans.
Mecha Break closed its latest beta on Steam on March 16, having attracted over 300,000 players. They were not willing to give feedback to Amazing Seasun. The Chinese studio is considering changes to several elements of Mecha Break, including the availability of Break Striker at launch and the usability of mech modules in competitive 3v3 and 6v6 modes. The company is hesitant to commit to anything, but understands that getting the live service model right at launch is essential to the game’s future.
According to CEO Kris Kwok, one of the most common feedback Amazing Seasun received was that players wanted to use all of the Break Strikers (as the game’s mechs are called) right away, but there was only one model available for beginners, and the others could only be unlocked with currency earned in multiplayer matches, but it could take days to unlock all 12 mechs. If Amazing Seasun chooses to go this route, the way subsequent content and mechs are unlocked (either by grind or purchase) may vary depending on how the developers rank the content.
After launch, the primary goal will be to release alternate versions of the mechs already seen in the beta, which will be available for purchase in the in-game store. Mecha Break’s open beta also featured a module system that allowed players to customize their mech’s attributes with unique equipment. Each piece of equipment gave small buffs and penalties to various abilities (e.g. energy recharge speed, weapon recharge time). The magnitude was not great, but depending on the play style, players could gain a big advantage.
Because of this, Amazing Seasun is considering restricting them to only be used in the extraction mode called Mashmak. They were even disabled in a tournament in Zhuhai last week (Chinese, Japanese and North American teams, 6v6 battles). This further supports the claim that they can give more skilled players and teams, as well as grinders, a big advantage in competitive matches. There are still PvP elements in Mashmak, so the modules determine how effective your mech can be against others. All of the modules can be unlocked by playing Mashmak, so it would make sense for them to only be used in that mode in the future.
So the developers can tinker with their plans. They’re not the only ones, as today’s news about Inzoi will discuss it in detail…
