Final Fantasy IX Remake: Is the Launch of a Website Proof of Its Existence?

Square Enix recently launched a website dedicated to the game, and the timing is no coincidence…

The announcement of the long-rumored Final Fantasy IX Remake could be imminent, as Square Enix prepares to celebrate the game’s 25th anniversary. A Final Fantasy IX 25th Anniversary news page has been launched on the franchise’s portal website, revealing some of the projects that will be undertaken to celebrate the occasion. Among them are new figurines, plush toys, and a commemorative album featuring a re-recorded version of the theme song Melodies of Life, Timeless Tale.

The disc is the interesting point: a user on Reddit wrote a few months ago that he knew the disc in question, and according to the information he has, this soundtrack was made for a game, so there’s a good chance that the new version of the theme song was created for the yet-unannounced remake. By the way, the Final Fantasy IX Remake is one of the few Square Enix projects that we first heard about a few years ago via a huge GeForce Now leak.

From what we’ve heard so far, Final Fantasy IX Remake won’t be as big a project as Final Fantasy VII Remake (which is divided into two parts, Final Fantasy VII Remake and Final Fantasy VII Rebirth). We may have to wait a few months to see Zidane and his gang back in action, as a highly reliable insider tells us that the remake is not expected to be released this year, but that doesn’t mean Square Enix won’t make an announcement soon. We don’t have to wait that long for confirmation on the project…?

It’s not out of the question that an announcement could be made during the Nintendo Direct focusing on the Nintendo Switch 2, which will be broadcast on April 2nd. The website has now been fired up to raise awareness and get the buzz going before the big N show. But it’s not official yet!
