TECH NEWS – On the outside, the new 14- and 16-inch MacBook Pro models don’t look much different.
Apple is wasting no time with the 14-inch and 16-inch MacBook Pro models. As expected, the more powerful chipset versions (M5 Pro, M5 Max) will likely be announced alongside the new portable Macs, but we’re hearing lately that the Cupertino-baed company is only changing the silicon, so it’s not so sure there will be significant differences on the outside.
Mark Gurman, Bloomberg editor, wrote in his weekly newsletter Power On not only about the 11″ and 13″ iPad Pro devices, but also that the M5 MacBook Pro family could arrive later this year. No specifications were mentioned. And MacRumors wrote that there will be no design change, and those who are eager for that will have to wait until 2026. Next year’s models will reportedly have a thinner chassis, as the newer laptops will reportedly use OLED instead of mini-LED.
Not much is heard about the M5 chipset, and they are controversial. Previously, we heard that mass production started in February, but other sources say that mass production of the system-on-a-chip (SoC) will not start until the second half of the year. It has also been speculated that the M5 series will use TSMC’s advanced SoIC-MH packaging, but it has also been mentioned that this technology will be used in the M5 Pro and M5 Max models, rather than the base version. This packaging is said to use vertically stacked chips, resulting in additional layers of circuitry, which also improves performance. Another benefit in favor of the M5 is that it will use TSMC’s third-generation 3nm process, which should provide better performance and efficiency, but given that the latest MacBook Pro family is already pretty powerful, this upgrade is likely aimed at those who missed out on the M4 machines.
But this is all unofficial!
