TECH NEWS – Those of you using one of the two previous generations of “green” graphics cards may be unsure if you should be using the latest drivers…
It’s been in the news several times that Nvidia’s GeForce Game Ready 572 drivers are causing problems on RTX 4000 graphics cards. Instability, crashes, freezes, black screens and performance issues have been reported with drivers for RTX 5000 GPUs. These problems are now widespread… and so bad that some developers are openly stating that they do not recommend installing new drivers!
Inzoi and The First Berserker: Khazan are among the games released a few days ago that are causing instability issues on RTX 4000 cards. You will experience choppiness and dropped frame rates. They are not alone: if you are using one of the RTX 3000 GeForce graphics cards with one of the 572 Nvidia drivers, you may also be affected.
The developers of Inzoi and The First Berserker: Khazan have also asked players to only use the new drivers (572.83 is the latest) if they are using one of the RTX 5000 graphics cards. If you are not using the Blackwell architecture, but the previous Ada Lovelace architecture, they recommend using the December 566.36 driver. And gamers on the Ampere architecture shouldn’t experience much instability, but if they do with the RTX 3000 cards, they only recommend 566 drivers, otherwise stick with 572.
The problem is that Nvidia is not very responsive to complaints. For Jensen Huang’s company, the artificial intelligence industry is the biggest revenue generator, while the gaming segment is only a fraction of what Nvidia does. Okay, they’ve tried to address the black screen issues with the RTX 5000 cards, but it’s as if they’re betting big on the previous two generations of GeForce graphics cards. That doesn’t reflect well on the company (especially since they’re much more expensive than AMD’s Radeon cards).
So the question is rhetorical: when will Nvidia act?
