Is the M6 iPad Pro Already in the Works?

TECH NEWS – The rumor mills say that Apple’s unique C2 modem will be included for better 5G connectivity.

Apple recently announced the latest version of the iPad Air with the M3 chip. The company did not stick to the schedule and decided to postpone the iPad Pro refresh. We could hope that the Cupertino-based company could release a new model of the OLED iPad Pro with the M5 system-on-a-chip (SoC) later this year, but as it turns out, Apple is already in the early stages of developing the next iPad Pro with the M6 SoC and a unique 5G modem (C2?). Bloomberg editor Mark Gurman wrote about this in his weekly newsletter Power On.

The device will be available in 2027. It will be significantly more powerful and will have a new, unique 5G-capable modem that is not currently available in any device. It will most likely be Apple’s own proprietary technology, C2, and we’ve already heard that it will arrive in 2026. Apple is expected to unveil the M5 iPad Pro this year, which may use a 2nm SoC manufactured by TSMC. It could therefore be more power efficient and have higher performance. The M6 SoC in the OLED iPad Pro will also be manufactured using TSMC’s 2nm process and will offer improved graphics and processing performance compared to the M5.

Currently, all mobile iPad models come with Qualcomm modems. Apple has yet to catch up in terms of performance. The C1 modem is currently only available in the recently released iPhone 16r, but the C2 could be the first to appear in an iPad Pro before Apple standardizes it across the product line. Gurman also wrote that Apple has begun work on a new version of the iPad 12, which could feature improved internals and presumably a look similar to the current design. According to him, Apple has already started work on an M5 MacBook Air, which could be available as early as next year, considering that the company just announced an M4 version of the machine. If Apple returns to its original spring release schedule, the M6 iPad Pro could possibly come in the first half of 2027.

None of this is official!
