The Japanese publisher has done something Capcom has never done before in the first month after release.
Capcom has announced that Monster Hunter Wilds has sold over 10 million copies. In the first three days after release (i.e. February 28, March 1, and March 2), the game sold 8 million copies (including pre-orders), and another 2 million in the first month. This is a new record for the latest entry in the Monster Hunter franchise that has never before been achieved by a game from a Japanese publisher.
Monster Hunter Wilds is the latest entry in the Monster Hunter series and is set in a dynamically changing world that is one moment a harsh wilderness swarming with packs of attacking monsters, and the next transformed into a rich natural environment teeming with life. The game features rich, beautiful visuals made possible by the RE Engine, Capcom’s proprietary game development engine, and cross-play, allowing players to enjoy the game together regardless of their game platform.
The game creates an environment where a wider range of players can enjoy the game together with the introduction of crossplay, a first for the series, and a simultaneous release on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series and PC. In addition, the introduction of the new Focus Mode mechanic and the implementation of seamless movement between settlements and ecosystems have created an even more immersive experience, while the fusion of numerous new elements with Monster Hunter’s appeal has generated significant excitement, resulting in the company’s record first month sales.
The first free update is scheduled for April 4 and will add a fan-favorite monster and the Grand Hub, a new in-game settlement where players can gather and communicate with each other. Going forward, Capcom plans to continue releasing updates that players will enjoy, such as the second update scheduled for release this summer. Capcom remains firmly committed to meeting the expectations of all users by leveraging its industry-leading game development capabilities to create highly enjoyable gaming experiences.
Congratulations!
