HANDHELD NEWS – PlayStation has shared some exciting news with PC players: The Last of Us: Part 2 – Remastered has officially been verified for Steam Deck. The game launches on PC on April 3 and will run smoothly on Valve’s handheld from day one.
As the release of The Last of Us: Part 2 – Remastered on PC approaches, PlayStation puts the final touches on this highly anticipated launch. Developed by Nixxes Software, the port brings Ellie’s journey to the Windows platform for the very first time. In recent weeks, Naughty Dog has steadily released details, from enhanced visuals to system requirements for the PC version. Now, they’ve added another key reveal: the title will be fully supported on the Steam Deck right from launch day.
“The Last of Us: Part 2 – Remastered for PC is officially verified for Steam Deck ahead of its April 3rd release!” reads a post from Naughty Dog on X (formerly Twitter). According to Valve’s standards, a game marked as “Verified” is one that “works perfectly on Steam Deck right out of the box.” That means players can expect a seamless experience without needing to tweak settings or resort to workarounds.
Still, not everything about the PC release has gone smoothly.
There’s still uncertainty about how the remastered title will perform on PC. It’s worth recalling that the PC launch of The Last of Us: Part 1—handled by Iron Galaxy—was met with widespread criticism for performance issues and technical problems. To make matters worse, the sequel became part of a larger controversy when it was announced that linking a PlayStation Network account to Steam would be mandatory for access.
Fortunately, that requirement was eventually rolled back. Following a surge of backlash from players, Sony reversed its decision. In January, the company announced that PSN account linking would be optional for select titles. That change now applies to The Last of Us: Part 2 – Remastered as well, meaning players will be able to jump into the adventure on PC without needing to sign in with a PlayStation account.
