NINTENDO PREVIEW – Long criticized for its lack of third-party support, Nintendo is finally turning things around with the Switch 2. From Elden Ring to Cyberpunk 2077 and Hogwarts Legacy, more than 50 new titles are already confirmed.
Nintendo’s consoles have often struggled to attract major third-party developers. While the original Switch made progress thanks to its phenomenal sales, it still left gaps in its library. That’s clearly something Nintendo aims to fix with the Switch 2. During the latest Nintendo Direct, the company pulled out all the stops and revealed an impressive slate of third-party games, including AAA titles like Elden Ring, Hogwarts Legacy, and the brand-new Split Fiction.
For several minutes, game after game was unveiled in a rapid-fire sequence. One of the biggest highlights was Elden Ring: Tarnished Edition, which was shown running directly on Switch 2 hardware. This edition includes the massive Shadow of the Erdtree expansion and additional content such as new weapons, armor, and a feature to customize Torrent’s appearance. The game is scheduled for release sometime in 2025, with a final date yet to be announced.
Also confirmed were Switch 2 versions of Cyberpunk 2077, Street Fighter 6, and Final Fantasy VII Remake Intergrade. Strategy fans can look forward to Civilization VII, which supports a new mouse mode that promises more precise controls. Hogwarts Legacy will also support the new Joy-Con 2’s mouse mode, feature improved visuals and audio, and deliver significantly faster loading times.
Another pleasant surprise was a short teaser for Hollow Knight: Silksong, which is finally confirmed for release in 2025. All in all, nearly 50 third-party games have been announced so far, and that number is still growing. Among the unexpected gems is a remastered version of the beloved 3DS JRPG Bravely Default: Flying Fairy, and even Borderlands 4, which will launch day one across Switch 2, PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X.
Nintendo’s Most Diverse Game Library Yet
Thanks to hardware improvements and brand-new features like mouse mode, the Switch 2 is shaping up to offer the most varied game lineup in Nintendo’s history. Genres that once struggled on Nintendo platforms—like RTS, FPS, or sim games—are now getting a serious boost. One standout announcement was Two Point Museum, a simulation title from the team behind Two Point Hospital.
Sega has announced five titles for the launch window, including Yakuza 0: Director’s Cut, Sonic X Shadow Generations, and Puyo Puyo Tetris 2S. Capcom also made an appearance, revealing that the critically acclaimed Kunitsu-Gami: Path of the Goddess will be joining the Switch 2 lineup as well.
