Microsoft is bringing Grand Theft Auto V back to Xbox Game Pass starting April 15. PC players get the Enhanced edition, featuring upgraded visuals and next-gen features.
We’ve all heard it countless times, but it’s still thrilling – GTA VI is officially in the pipeline, with a release expected on PS5 and Xbox Series sometime this fall. In preparation, Microsoft is boosting the franchise’s presence by reintroducing GTA V to Xbox Game Pass. Starting April 15, subscribers to Game Pass Ultimate, Standard, and PC Game Pass can jump back into the explosive world of Michael, Trevor, and Franklin.
The news was revealed in a surprise update on Xbox Wire: “If you’ve been missing Los Santos, I’m excited to share that Grand Theft Auto V is returning to Game Pass on April 15!” The announcement also highlighted perks for PC gamers: “And for all of you playing on PC, I’m even happier to announce that GTA V Enhanced is available with PC Game Pass and includes all the latest features like Hao’s Special Works Vehicles and more.”
As part of the re-release, GTA Online will be accessible through Xbox Game Pass. According to Microsoft: “When playing GTA Online, you’ll want to make sure you and your friends are playing on the same edition so you can group up – the good news is that Game Pass Ultimate and Game Pass Standard players have access to all console and PC editions, so you can download and play whatever version your friends are using. And, for PC Game Pass players, both editions are available to download and play, even if your friends are on Steam or Epic Games.”
What’s New in GTA V Enhanced?
This isn’t GTA V’s first appearance on Game Pass, but this time, PC users are getting the Enhanced edition. Released in early March, this version includes ray tracing support, faster load times, improved visuals, better audio, and compatibility with AMD FSR1, FSR3, and NVIDIA DLSS 3. It also unlocks features in GTA Online that were previously exclusive to PS5 and Xbox Series versions.
However, players haven’t universally embraced the Enhanced edition. At launch, it had only a 53% approval rating on Steam, and while that figure has risen to 62%, frustrations remain. Gamers have reported issues transferring GTA Online saves, along with occasional performance hiccups. That said, many agree the game looks and plays more smoothly than the original release.
