Steam Deck Update Boosts Performance in Two Games – But May Break a Key Feature

The latest Steam Deck update enhances performance for select titles, but it’s also reportedly causing technical hiccups, prompting power users to advise caution before installing.

SteamOS has long been touted as the real strength behind the Steam Deck, not just its hardware. Valve’s consistent support has elevated the device into a surprisingly capable gaming platform—even for titles that weren’t originally optimized for handheld play.

The newly released 3.6.24 update, available now via the Stable channel, addresses several minor bugs that have annoyed users. These include the mysterious disappearance of the cursor in some scenarios and connectivity issues with the legacy DualShock 3 controller, which some users still insist on pairing with the handheld.

More importantly, the update brings notable performance gains to two recent games: No Rest for the Wicked and Avowed. In the case of the former, the update resolves regression problems that previously impacted system optimization, while the latter benefits from improved rendering stability.

New Fixes, New Problems

Unfortunately, not all feedback is positive. Reports have emerged that the update has inadvertently disabled the TDP Limiting slider—a setting popular among more advanced users. This tool allows for fine-tuned control over CPU power consumption, often helping to balance performance and battery life.

While this issue hasn’t affected every user, the community has begun to voice concerns. If you rely on this feature to tweak performance or extend battery runtime, you might want to hold off on installing the update, especially if neither of the improved games is part of your usual rotation.
