Is Rainbow Six Getting a Turn-Based Tactical Game?

Ubisoft’s yet-to-be-announced project could take place in the world of Rainbow Six Siege (will it be XCOM-style?).

Recently, Insider Gaming editor Tom Henderson reported that Ubisoft is allegedly developing a turn-based tactical game set in the world of Rainbow Six Siege. The release is still a bit off, as it is rumored that it will be released in either 2026 or 2027 for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series, PC, and possibly Nintendo Switch 2.

Henderson’s sources have mentioned that it will be very similar to XCOM (so yes, it will indeed follow the Firaxis style…), although there will be more cutscenes in this game. Players will be able to choose operators with different skills depending on the mission. The story mode should take 25-30 hours to complete, but this is subject to change, which is perfectly understandable as the game is far from being finished, so the French publisher could still cut back on the project…

Rainbow Six Siege has become one of Ubisoft’s most successful games of the last decade, making it the most successful French game using the live service model, and it’s no surprise that the publisher is doing all it can to make this IP a success alongside Far Cry and Assassin’s Creed. These three IPs will be managed by a new subsidiary recently announced with the financial backing of Chinese tech giant Tencent. Meanwhile, Rainbow Six Siege will be revamped in a few months, with Rainbow Six Siege X coming soon.

It will feature improved graphics and new gameplay elements. There will be new destructible objects, smoother rig navigation with improved controls. There will be better propagation and reverb with revamped sound, and the beginner experience will be refreshed with new tutorial material and field exercises to help them master the basics before jumping into matches. There’s also a new communication wheel for easy communication with teammates. The updated Pick and Ban system adds a new layer of strategy, allowing teams to react and adapt to enemy strategies. Simultaneous bans in each round will speed up the process. R6 ShieldGuard will be a unified approach to all existing anti-cheating initiatives and will introduce new technologies to protect the game, including live security updates that will occur without scheduled maintenance, making cheating impossible. The reputational system will also be enhanced to ensure players behave appropriately during matches.

Rainbow Six divided into rounds is not official yet!
