Following the recent wave of Xbox titles making their way to PlayStation, Microsoft has officially confirmed that Age of Empires II: Definitive Edition is launching on PS5 on May 6, complete with The Three Kingdoms expansion.
For over 25 years, the Age of Empires franchise has set the standard for real-time strategy games with its deep tactical mechanics and historical narratives. After debuting on Xbox consoles in 2023, Age of Empires II: Definitive Edition is now set to reach an even broader audience as it arrives on PlayStation 5 this spring, in line with Microsoft’s cross-platform strategy.
It was announced some weeks ago that two Age of titles would come to Sony’s console. Age of Mythology: Retold arrived on March 4, and Age of Empires II: Definitive Edition will follow on May 6, launching simultaneously with a major expansion. As detailed on the official website, The Three Kingdoms DLC will release the same day, bringing 15 missions spread across three branching campaigns.
Inspired by the legendary Chinese novel Romance of the Three Kingdoms, the expansion throws players into the fierce power struggle between the Shu, Wei, and Wu dynasties, while also introducing two additional civilizations. The PS5 version of the game will be available in two editions: the Standard version (€39.99), which includes The Mountain Royals pack, and the Premium version (€59.99), offering five days of early access, The Three Kingdoms expansion, and all previously released DLC content.
Upcoming Xbox games on PS5
Age of Empires II is just one of several Xbox exclusives heading to PS5 this year. Coming soon is Indiana Jones and the Great Circle, launching April 17, followed closely by Forza Horizon 5 later in the month. Then on May 15, DOOM: The Dark Ages joins the lineup, and Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 3+4 will land on Sony’s console on July 11.
