This Promising Sci-Fi Shooter Has Been Delayed—But You Can Still Play It for Free

Delays strike again: Metal Eden, one of the most anticipated sci-fi shooters of the year, won’t be arriving in May after all. The team at Reikon Games has pushed the release window to summer 2025, though you can still dive into its free demo on consoles and PC.

No studio is immune to the sting of delays—big or small—and now it’s Reikon Games that’s had to yank Metal Eden from its calendar just two weeks ahead of launch. The fast-paced sci-fi shooter, which had caught the attention of Ghostrunner fans, is being pushed back by several months.

Originally set to release on May 6, 2025, the game will now arrive sometime in the summer of that year. That places its new launch window between June and August 2025. It’s a notable delay, though not an extreme one, and the studio says it will announce a new date as soon as it’s finalized.

Why Was Metal Eden Delayed?

So what exactly caused this sudden shift? According to the developers, the feedback collected from the game’s playable demo played a pivotal role. In a statement shared on Steam, Reikon Games said: “After analyzing feedback from the demo, we clearly saw some areas where we can improve.”

As a result, the studio has opted to take additional time to polish the game and ensure it meets expectations. Player feedback has been instrumental in guiding these refinements, and the team has expressed gratitude for the community’s involvement.

In the meantime, the Metal Eden demo remains live and accessible for Xbox Series X|S, PS5, and PC. This trial version lets players get hands-on with core mechanics such as gunplay, movement, and character progression, while also offering a taste of the narrative through its first two missions. With all the planned updates, some are wondering if the demo will receive a refresh before the game’s final launch.

As we move closer to the revised release window, excitement continues to build among fans. With a promise of a more refined and robust action experience, Metal Eden is shaping up to deliver something worth the wait.
