Is Ubisoft Going All-In on Assassin’s Creed?

According to a new rumor, Ubisoft—under the leadership of Yves Guillemot—is preparing a massive lineup of new entries in one of its most important franchises…

Industry insider Tom Henderson claims that there are far more Assassin’s Creed games in the works than previously known: a staggering nine (9!) titles are reportedly in development. Four of them have been publicly acknowledged. One is Jade, a mobile game set in ancient China, officially announced years ago. Although there’s been radio silence since, Henderson insists it’s the next title coming. Another is Invictus, a multiplayer spin-off in the style of Fall Guys. Back in April, Henderson said it would release this year, and he now adds that Ubisoft is willing to support the title for up to five years post-launch—if internal reception is strong enough.

Also in development is a remake of Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag, under the codename Obsidian. It could launch around the same time, in late 2025 or early 2026. Another official project is Assassin’s Creed Hexe, teased briefly at Ubisoft Forward 2022. Developed by Ubisoft Montréal, the game is led by veteran Clint Hocking, who served as creative director on Splinter Cell: Chaos Theory, Far Cry 2, and Watch Dogs: Legion. The project has been described as a “very different” kind of Assassin’s Creed—possibly similar to Mirage.

Roadmap Speculation and Unknowns

According to Henderson, Ubisoft plans to release all post-launch content for Shadows before discontinuing support for the game. That would take roughly two years, putting the timeline around 2027, with one additional year of standalone post-launch support. Meanwhile, development is underway for the next major open-world Assassin’s Creed RPG, codenamed Scarlet. Henderson speculates this could be Nebula, a title spanning three settings: the Aztec Empire, India, and the Mediterranean region.

From this point forward, things get murky. A second remake, codenamed Stardust, is in the works, but it’s unclear which entry is being remade. Then there’s Emerald, another multiplayer-focused title reportedly receiving five years of post-launch support. Its release could be close to Stardust’s. Lastly, there’s a mysterious RPG 3, with no known details except that it’s set to follow two years after Scarlet’s expansion cycle. Even further out, an unnamed third remake may launch a year after that.

Which of these projects will actually materialize? Time will tell—but for now, none of it is officially confirmed.
