TECH NEWS – A nearly invisible crease, top-tier hinge quality, outstanding durability, and a seamless user experience: Apple’s ambitions for its foldable iPhone are nothing short of game-changing.
According to a respected analyst, Apple is planning to release the second generation of its foldable iPhone in about two years, with major upgrades expected in the hinge mechanism and display technology. But even the first-generation model might already pack key advantages over its rivals when it comes to design and day-to-day usability.
Mark Gurman, editor of Bloomberg’s Power On newsletter, says Apple’s foldable phone will offer two major advantages over its competitors. Still in development, the device is being carefully fine-tuned — particularly the display and hinge, which are the most critical components. Reports suggest Apple has delayed the launch to meet its high standards, aiming for a display completely free of creases. And according to Gurman, they’re getting close to achieving that goal.
Near-Invisible Crease and Premium Hinge
Gurman claims the foldable iPhone will feature a display with an almost unnoticeable crease when opened. The rumored 7.8″ or 8″ (19.81 cm / 20.32 cm) panel is said to offer a seamless viewing experience, free from notches or breaks — a major upgrade over existing foldables that distort light at various angles.
He also notes that Apple’s hinge will outperform the competition in terms of quality. While specifics are scarce, it’s expected to be made from a combination of stainless steel and titanium, offering high durability. Whether it stands up to long-term real-world use remains to be seen.
iPad Mini Size, Touch ID, and Dense Battery
Analyst Ming-Chi Kuo adds that the foldable iPhone will sport a 5.5-inch (13.97 cm) external screen and a 7.8-inch internal one — making it comparable in size to the iPad mini, albeit with a different aspect ratio. It will likely feature Touch ID in the power button instead of Face ID, and house a high-density battery. The phone could measure just 4.5 mm when unfolded and 9–9.5 mm when folded. None of this, however, is officially confirmed.
