MOVIE NEWS – Just one image was enough to rekindle hope among Tomb Raider fans, as Sophie Turner—known for playing Sansa Stark—appears to be training hard for her role as Lara Croft. Though Amazon Prime has yet to confirm any production details, it seems the show isn’t as dead as we feared.
While HBO Max viewers are still following Ellie’s trek through Seattle in The Last of Us, more video game adaptations are preparing for the spotlight. One of the most talked-about was the live-action Tomb Raider series announced for Prime Video. But after reports of possible cancellation surfaced weeks ago, fans were left in the dark. Now, the outlook might be turning around.
Amazon and MGM Haven’t Given Up
According to Variety, Story Kitchen—the production company in charge of the Tomb Raider series—has renewed its first-look agreement with both Amazon and MGM Studios. This indicates that the project is still active, even though no further updates were provided about its current state. But a recent photo of Sophie Turner hints that filming could be a lot closer than expected, contrary to previous rumors.
Turner, widely recognized for her work in Game of Thrones and X-Men: Dark Phoenix, shared a picture where she seems physically and stylistically prepared for an action-packed role—one that screams Lara Croft. While some fans might just be projecting their hopes onto the image, insider Daniel Ritchman claims that the Crystal Dynamics adaptation is indeed moving forward.

Phoebe Waller-Bridge, the creative force behind Fleabag and star of Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny, was brought on board last year as a writer and executive producer. Other than Sophie Turner, no casting announcements have been made, and there’s still radio silence on a release date.
In related Game of Thrones news, it was recently confirmed that The Knight of the Seven Kingdoms—a new prequel based on George R.R. Martin’s world—won’t debut until 2026. The third season of House of the Dragon is now in production, but that too is unlikely to air before mid-2026. Fans of Westeros will have to be patient a while longer.
