This Horror Game Wants You to Say: “I Can’t Believe They Actually Did This”

Many players will be left stunned, saying, “I can’t believe they went there”—and that’s exactly what the new psychological horror game from the creators of Tales of Kenzera: ZAU and Palworld is aiming for. Surgent Studios and Pocketpair Publishing have unveiled Dead Take, a twisted dive into the rot of the entertainment industry.

With Palworld’s massive success lining its coffers, Pocketpair now has the means to support other developers—and that’s precisely what it’s doing. The studio has announced a new collaboration with Surgent Studios, known for Tales of Kenzera: ZAU, to bring a disturbing new horror title to life: Dead Take.

Details remain scarce, but both companies are promising a sinister and surprising experience. According to Surgent Studios and Pocketpair Publishing, the game will lead players deep into the corrupt underworld of showbiz. “Search for your missing friend as you delve into the rot of the entertainment industry. Discover the monstrous cost of creation in this first-person psychological horror game.”

Disturbing subject matter, chilling storytelling

While the full scope of the game remains under wraps, Surgent Studios CEO Abubakar Salim has teased just enough to spark curiosity: “We’re being secretive for a reason,” he said. “The subject matter of this game is sensitive and hits close to home. When it comes out—and that won’t take long—I want players to say: ‘I can’t believe they did this.'”

Though there’s no launch date yet, Dead Take is scheduled to arrive sometime in 2025 via Steam. Until then, horror fans can already add the game to their wishlist.
