An Unannounced Halo Game Coming to PlayStation 5?

According to a new rumor, Master Chief may soon appear on Sony’s console for the first time—at least if a known data miner is to be believed.

Grunt.api, a prominent dataminer in the Halo community, recently tweeted that he discovered a new title in the Retail API that appears to be compatible with both the Xbox Series and PlayStation 5. The presence of a new identifier suggests that it’s not a port of Halo Infinite or the Master Chief Collection, but rather an entirely new and unannounced game. Unfortunately, there’s no indication yet as to when it might be revealed, though grunt.api believes the announcement may be just around the corner.

While no direct evidence was shared, grunt.api has a proven track record when it comes to Halo-related leaks, having previously revealed content for Halo Infinite before its official announcements. That alone lends significant credibility to the possibility that a new Halo title is in development—and that it may indeed come to the PlayStation 5.

At the end of the Xbox Game Showcase, Phil Spencer hinted that a classic title—one that has been with the Xbox brand from the beginning—will return in 2026. Many believe he was referring to Halo, making it all the more likely that the unannounced game could be a Halo: Combat Evolved remake. Bringing the original game back in a modernized form would be a strategic way to introduce the franchise to a new audience—particularly if it launches on PlayStation as well.

Of course, none of this is official yet. The latest entry in the franchise, Halo Infinite, remains available on Xbox Series, PC, and Xbox One, although its Slipspace engine has already been replaced by Unreal Engine 5—a sign that big changes could be coming to the series.
