It will take Funcom at least six months to bring its open-world survival MMO to Microsoft’s and Sony’s current-generation consoles.
Dune: Awakening had a successful launch. Over 117 thousand concurrent players logged in over the weekend, and the game was only available to those who pre-ordered the Deluxe version before the June 10 launch. Now, anyone can go to Arrakis. Funcom should be commended for the game already producing such high concurrency numbers for owners of the Deluxe Edition alone.
While Dune: Awakening is available today for PC, console gamers will have to wait. It’s been clear for some time that the game would be released for PC first. However, it appears that the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series ports will be delayed until 2026, according to Funcom’s press release.
To celebrate the full release, the studio has also released a new trailer. It’s a montage of footage from previous trailers. Funcom CEO and CTO Rui Casais sent a message to players thanking those who have already started playing and asking for their patience as Funcom works to address any issues that may arise during the game’s release:
“Believe it or not, we look at all your feedback on social media, Discord, support tickets, and Steam reviews. We’re working around the clock to address any issues you encounter and enhance the overall experience. Funcom has been creating online worlds like this for 25 years. I have been doing it for almost 24 years, and I can tell you that this is my most exciting launch yet. I can’t wait to see more of you enjoying the game and I ask that you please bear with us if not everything is seamless when we open the game tomorrow. This is only the beginning. We have years’ worth of plans for Dune: Awakening, and I want to thank you all once again for joining us on this journey,” Casais said.
The Season Pass includes the Wildlife of Arrakis DLC, which features four in-game statues honoring the planet’s most iconic creatures: the sandworm, chiroptera, kulon, and Muad’Dib. The three additional DLCs are expected to be released in Q4 of 2025, Q1 of 2026, and Q2 of 2026. Funcom will release free content updates alongside the paid DLCs.
